Traditional Māori Knowledge

Strengthening Identity and Hauora Through Cultural Knowledge

Reclaiming Traditional Māori Knowledge for Whānau Wellbeing

Mātauranga Māori brings together traditional knowledge holders to share pūrākau (stories), tikanga (customs), and practices like muka pito, uku whenua, and oriori in culturally safe spaces. Whānau engage in tūpuna parenting and hapūtanga wānanga to gain confidence in their roles as māmā and pāpā. These wānanga encourage a return to cultural roots, enabling whānau to embrace Te Ao Māori and uplift their identity, hauora (health), and connection to whakapapa. We honour mātauranga Māori to support generations to thrive.

Our Support Process

At E Tipu E Rea, we initiate support with a straightforward three-step process:

Initial Contact

The journey begins when you fill out our form or contact us. This first step is crucial in opening the doors to assistance and understanding.

Triage & Assessment

Each enquiry is carefully triaged to understand the unique needs of the whānau. This ensures that the support provided is tailored and effective.

Personalised Planning

A dedicated Kaiāwhina is assigned to whānau, who will arrange a first visit for whanaungatanga.  Whanaungatanga is the cornerstone of our ongoing support and will help us plan for the support we give you.

Supporting Whānau with a focus on the crucial first 2,000 days of parenting.

We are dedicated to supporting young parents, their pēpi, hapū māmā, and the wider whānau to plan for their own growth and leadership development. Our tautoko includes, employment and housing, events, leadership wānanga and other opportunities,  counselling,  social support, hauora services for pēpi and parents (Immunisations and Well Child Tamariki Ora), midwifery, and connection to Mātauranga Māori; including mobile Māori play, rongoā and tūpuna parenting.

Reconnect with Mātauranga Māori: Join our wānanga and rediscover the strength of traditional Māori birthing and parenting wisdom.
